To Learn Technical Analysis Means Understanding the Inside Bar

By Chris Blanchet

As far as learning technical analysis goes, many investors will make short-term trades based on longer-term, "solid" patterns such as the head and shoulders top covered previously in this series. The problem with relying on solid patterns is that they are generally longer-term in nature and may not produce the short-term returns one hopes for.

One of short-term patterns that investors seek is a two-bar pattern known as the inside bar. This pattern reflects a short-term change in investor sentiment, so that if a pattern has been driven downward, the possibility is that the short-term prices will turn around and head the other way.

Discovering an Inside Bar Pattern

When investors are learning technical analysis, spotting the inside bar pattern can be difficult. (See our website for a graphical representation). Basically, an inside bar pattern consists of a longer bar (wide trading range) followed by a shorter bar (small trading range). The second bar forms completely within the range of the preceding bar.

Supporting Criteria

When it comes to using the inside bar to commit to a trade, investors should seek additional confirmation through additional analysis. This step is often overlooked when investors start learning technical analysis. Other analysis includes fundamental data for the security, sector and market, as well as technical data such as support and resistance levels and momentum.

In terms of the inside bar itself, investors will find greater reliability when they discover the bar that follows a sharper inbound trend. As well, the wider the first bar and shorter the following bar, the better as this indicates the stronger momentum has ended, and the possibility for a more dramatic turn.

And lastly, the volume level should be lower for the second bar than for the first, as this hints at a better balance.

When people are learning technical analysis, it is often forgotten no single indicator or pattern should be used by itself when making a trade decision. Other analysis is required. For investors who prefer to know when to buy and sell, there is software available that will do exctly that. - 23305

The Pros And Cons Of Debt Consolidation

By Layla Vanderbilt

Lenders will not even consider a loan for you when your income to debt ratio is too high. When you have a huge debt it can lower your credit score. Even though there are companies which help to remove all your debts quick and legal, people are concerned with damaging their credit score further. They might not be interested to pay off with consolidation companies, because there will be a low score at the end of the procedure.

To help with this issue, several companies offer what is called debt consolidation. They offer to remove all your debt quickly. It's hard to know if this is a good idea. Will consolidating your debt plunge your credit score even further down? Will lowering the debt help your score in the long run? The answers depend on a few things.

You can greatly improve your credit score by paying off the credit card debt, avoiding the consideration of the debt to income ratio. You have to be careful with your credit card debt so as to not have a negative impact on your credit scores. Even if your credit scores are rock bottom you can bring it back by following certain rules.

When your credit scores are negatively impacted, you can pay the debts for a lower amount through consolidation companies which will help you by taking the case on your behalf, but your credit score will be lowered. Since the future purchases are in consideration, most people tend to avoid consolidation techniques.

Another method of consolidation is to pay off the balance on all your credit cards with proceeds from a home equity loan or another mortgage on your home (called a second mortgage). Interest is almost always much lower with these types of loans. They look much better on your loan record, too. Your credit score won't suffer nearly as much if you add a loan of $15,000 to your mortgage instead of to some high-interest credit card.

Alternatives to debt consolidation loans are a second mortgage or home equity loan. These options have the lowest interest rates and are beneficial to your credit score if they are a possibility.A home loan it will absorb $15,000 in debt much easier than having it listed on your credit report as additional debt with high interest payments.

Your credit rating is an asset that you should want to maintain and grow, so examine all your options before taking what looks like an easy way out of your current financial crisis. - 23305

What's the Truth About American's Credit Card Debt

By Layla Vanderbilt

Many sources, including the government, the media, and even bank officials, have claimed that the American people have a lot of credit card debt. There are many rumors going around saying that Americans owe thousands of dollars each in credit card debt. They usually will give statistics with their claims to help back the claims up. However the truth about Americans credit card debt is often skewed and hidden. The only way to see the truth is to break down the numbers.

You may have heard the statistic that the average American has more than $8,000 in credit card debt. While this statistic is true, it only holds true if you're considering every American in the country. Most statistics don't include every American, only those that have credit cards. Thus our image of the average American family with a house and kids is skewed as not all of these "average" Americans have credit card debt. The problem is when they mention the word average in their statistics we are lead to believe that it's this type of family that we often think of when in fact they actually use the mean of the people who have credit card debt.

Only 1 in 20 American households actually carry $8,000 or more in credit card debt. The truth about credit card debt is that most American families actually owe nothing to credit card companies. This is because most of them don't have credit cards or pay off the bill in full. Out of the households that do owe credit card companies money, most of them only owe $2,000 or less. It's clear that an average can't give you the real answer to how much credit card debt the American people have.

You may ask why the number is a skewed number. The answer is based on how they arrived at their average debt number. They got the average American debt number by taking $750 billion in credit card debt and dividing it by 84 million American households which is the number of households that have one or more credit cards. The resulting number is the average. This number however is inaccurate when compared to the truth about credit card debt.

However this number is very deceiving as they didn't even factor in the number of Americans that don't have credit cards. By doing this they eliminated 23.8% of American households in their calculations. This is a huge factor if you're trying to get the average American credit card debt for all Americans. Another 31.2% of American households pay off their bills as soon as they get them. Thus altogether 55% of all American households owe no credit card debt.

For the $1,000+ range there are only 29% that are in that range and only 21% of households that owe $2,000 or more. Finally we can see that only 4% of households owe $10,000+ and 1% of American households have credit card debt in excess of $21,000. We can see that very little to nothing is owed by most of the American households. There are only 21% of American households that actually owe more than $2,000 in credit card debt. This is only 1/5 American households that owe a decent amount of money to credit card companies and we can see that the $8,000 is nowhere near what the average American household owes in credit card debt. - 23305

Is The Ugliest Emerging In The Real Estate Industry?

By Gavin J. King

Like a carnival free-fall ride that stops suddenly, teasing riders into a false sense of safety before plummeting the rest of the way to the ground, some economists say the housing market could once again be headed for a plunge after slowly clawing back some of its 2008 losses.

It is rare that a combination of government factors depresses the real estate market, but projections indicate a slump of 10-15% in prices may be coming our way.

After a 36 month departure from the peak of the real estate market, the topic is still real estate and the current trend in prices. The news is not good and may signal the end to the brief period of appreciation we had in 2009

The first shoe to fall was last week's Federal Housing Authority announcement that it would tighten its loan standards in light of defaults that had pushed the agency's reserves well below its mandated level.

Using the huge number of loan defaults, the FHA reasoned that raising the required down payment for buyers with the lowest credit, increased the PMI premiums for its loans, and reduced the amount of seller pre-paids and closing costs allowed.

Conventional loan programs are having a hard time placing loans with qualified borrowers, who are turning to FHA financing for easier loans

Due to these trends many borrowers are considering the FHA as their only source available for financing their home purchases, which means the government will be backing even more loans than the already burdened Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac do. Being forced to utilize FHA type loans, many buyers are finding a great resource in them in a time when conventional loan money is more than difficult to get. - 23305
